The basic tool we use to reach into the lives of teenagers is the TFC “Connection” meeting. These happen in communities within a 150 mile radius of Phillipsburg, KS. Our vision is to see a TFC Connection group impacting every junior and senior high school in this area. Connection meetings are held in homes, places of business and sometimes even churches. Each student group is designed to meet the emotional and spiritual needs of teenagers and to teach them the claims of Christ. All this is anchored in a fun atmosphere with wholesome Christian activities. Community adults who serve as “volunteer staff” in these connection groups assist the TFC staff in meeting the needs of teens. It is our desire that students come to The Edge in taking that next step of faith in the disciple-making process, to be all that God has called them to be at this point in their life. Thus, The Edge is held in the second Saturday of every month during the school year in Rexford, KS. Open to adults as well as teens, The Edge is in essence a giant Connection meeting. Singing, skits, testimonies, guest speakers and musicians or Christian films, combined with the fellowship of teens from around the area make these evenings a highlight for many TFC teens.
Our desire to see teenagers develop a heart from missions was the main force behind organizing mission trips. Teenagers who are selected form a group of applicants raise their own financial support to fund these trips. Construction and repairs on homes and churches, drama performances, and English camps along with evenings of spiriutal emphasis give teenagers a hands-on expereince with missions. In recent years teenagers have gone to the Navajo Indian Raservation in Arizona, Cary, Mississippi, Mexico, Belarus and South Africa.
TFC Camp happens two weeks each summer at the Camp Joy grounds. During wild and wacky games, water fun and special events, the teenagers develop special relationships with other area teens. The morning and evening devotions along with daily seminars and large group evening meetings give campers encouragement in building solid relationships with Jesus Christ.
Special events offer excellent opportunities to impact teenager’s lives. Trips to seminars or concerts, along with occasional weekend events such as Over the Edge (an all night event), Leadership Retreat, or back packing trip, provide teenagers with a positive Christian atmosphere of fun and fellowship.
